An Inside-Out Column-Type Hollow Fiber UF (Ultrafiltration) Membrane is a filtration module in which raw water flows through the inside (lumen) of each hollow fiber, filtering outward through the fiber wall — housed in a vertical (column) orientation, as opposed to horizontal designs. The column-type configuration offers a compact footprint, making it well-suited for facilities with limited floor space while maintaining efficient flow distribution and backwash performance.
Construction & Design
Fiber Material: Typically PVC, PVDF, or PES (polyethersulfone) — selected for chemical resistance, mechanical strength, and durability under repeated backwash cycles.
Fiber Configuration: Thousands of hollow fibers bundled vertically inside a cylindrical column housing, potted with epoxy resin at top and bottom to separate feed and permeate compartments.
Flow Path: Feed water enters the fiber lumen (inside) from the bottom or top under pressure; filtration occurs from inside the fiber outward, with permeate collected in the outer shell/column and suspended solids retained within the fiber for removal during backwash.
Pore Size: Standard UF range of 0.01–0.1 micron, effectively removing turbidity, bacteria, colloids, and suspended solids.
Housing: Vertical PVC or stainless-steel column shell, designed for compact rack assembly and simplified piping in space-constrained plants.
